We all want to know successful people’s wellness habits, thinking this could be a factor in becoming one of the richest in the world. However, those who are looking into copying Jack Dorsey’s steps may want to think twice before doing so – the Twitter chief executive officer revealed his lifestyle that raised the eyebrows of many. But as much as his revelation of a morning ice-cold bath already sounded odd, people singled out his eating habits, deeming it as a cause for concern.
Jack Dorsey’s Eating Pattern
This wasn’t the first time Dorsey has been open about his eating habits. Previously, he revealed some of his experiments from the Paleo diet to being vegan. His recent venture, however, stirred quite a buzz – it’s not surprising, to say the least.
The Twitter exec rarely eats, only once a day on weekdays, and goes through the weekends without anything, which makes you think, how is he even alive? Monday to Friday, he only munches chicken, fish, or steak with asparagus, spinach, salad, or Brussels sprouts between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. For dessert, he consumes dark chocolate or mixed berries. He also has red wine at times.
This eating habit is likened to intermittent fasting, a trend that’s gaining so much popularity that even celebrities are giving it a try. However, it seems that there’s nothing as restrictive as Dorsey’s practice, although he claims it worked wonders for him. In the first two weeks, he admitted that it was hard, but he felt the change in his focus and improvement in his sleep.
This eating pattern involves two windows – time when you can eat and hours when you fast. Unlike other diet plans, there is no specific type of food you should or shouldn’t consume. As per studies, it was found to be effective in weight loss and some experts even advise the approach. It’s not only helpful to those who want to shed off pounds, but it also aids lowering your risk of developing diabetes type 2.
As for Dorsey’s claim that his sleep has gotten better, more research is needed to know if there’s an effect on the circadian rhythm because there are mixed results. However, sleep doctor Michael Breus said that a lot of his patients said they noticed an improvement in their sleep.
Celebrities Who Tried Intermittent Fasting
With loads of reported benefits, it’s no wonder why celebrities jumped into the bandwagon. One of which was Hugh Jackman, who adhered to the 16:8 eating program, or 16-hour window fasting and 8-hour window eating, in preparation for his role as Wolverine in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Just like Dorsey, the actor also credits his better sleep quality to intermittent fasting.
Comedian Terry Crews, who is undeniably ripped, practices the 16:8 intermittent fasting as well for years now. He said he noticed wonderful changes, which he links to this eating pattern. Meanwhile, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel wowed the crowd when he suddenly lost a significant amount of weight. Apparently, he followed the 5:2 plan wherein he eats below 500 calories for two days and gobbles up anything he wants for five days.
Is it Safe to Follow Jack Dorsey’s Diet Plan?
Experts have long been warning the public against trying out diet fads that keep popping out of nowhere. Moreover, they strongly urge us to always heed advice from doctors, dieticians, nutritionists, and other experts and not to rely on hearsays.
Eating Recovery Center eating disorder expert Allison Chase that what Dorsey’s doing – eating once a day and fasting on weekends – is highly detrimental to the health. Furthermore, she said that labeling his behavior as a “wellness habit” could lead to misleading the public and which could prompt other people to follow suit since they might think of it as a healthy lifestyle since it was wrongly labeled.
