Joe Mauer was one of the star players in the MLB. A reliable catcher and formidable hitter, Mauer’s 15-year career has had a profound effect not only on the Minnesota Twins but also on all of MLB. Being a born athlete, Mauer excelled in baseball, football, and basketball while in high school, but his prodigious talent on the baseball pitch was quite evident.
Mauer ultimately made the decision to bypass playing college football and pursue the MLB draft. He was selected first overall in 2001 by the Minnesota Twins. Mauer broke multiple batting records for catchers throughout his career, including the record for most batting championships.
