More than a decade since the widely popular sitcom ‘Friends’ aired its series finale. But it looks like the show had no problem getting new fans and keeping old ones though. And now, word on the street is that the six-piece gang might finally make their much-awaited return to everyone’s television screens.
Rumored Special
According to multiple outlets, the ‘Friends’ cast might sign on a well-paying gig to get together once again this time for a potential reunion special. Actors Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, Matt Le Blanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Jennifer Aniston are currently in discussions for an hour-long unscripted special, which would reportedly air on the upcoming HBO Max streaming platform.
The same video-on-demand service would also be the entire 10-season sitcom’s new home after its departure from Netflix. As Deadline reports, each of the ‘Friends’ main stars could get a paycheck of as much as $4 million should they agree to do the special. However, the Wall Street Journal was informed that the amount would be in the $2.5 million range.
Cryptic Announcement
Despite these rumors though, nothing has been confirmed yet. Fans’ curiosity was piqued though after one of the main cast members Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the show, posted a cryptic tweet from his official account. It’s also worth noting that supposed talks about the special reportedly began in late 2019 with an ‘insider’ tipping People magazine off that the reunion would only happen under the right circumstances.
26th Anniversary Celebrations
Considering that the sitcom just celebrated its 26th anniversary in 2020, it might really be the perfect timing to push for a reunion for its main cast. Celebrations for this momentous milestone involved numerous events. For one, a collection of ‘Friends’ episodes were shown in a thousand theaters across the United States. Iconic shooting locations were also featured in a pop-up in New York City, where fans had the chance to experience the world of their favorite show.
