Kanye West has always been a controversial figure in the music industry, but lately, he has amped up the controversy, making fans around the world worry about his mental and emotional wellbeing.
West's downward spiral kicked off after he appeared at a presidential campaign rally and made some concerning revelations about his personal life, including his marriage to Kim Kardashian and the birth of their first daughter, North.
Ever since, the rapper has gone off on Twitter, putting several music artists and even his own wife and mother-in-law on blast. On September 16 alone, Kanye posted more than 100 tweets, taking a jab at the Grammys and calling out his record label for not letting him own his masters.
In one of the controversial posts, the rapper posted a clip of flushing his Grammy statuette down the toilet, causing a storm of angry messages and tweets from artists who found his actions disrespectful.
But the 21-time Grammy winner was banned from Twitter soon after, leaving fans speculating what made the social media platform take such a strong action against him. Surprisingly, the ban had nothing to do with his post about flushing down his Grammy trophy or recording contracts down the toilet. So what happened exactly? Here's the entire truth.
Twitter Rants
West has been angrier than usual lately, and it turns out that he has a bone to pick with a number of public figures and prestigious organizations. After his presidential bid for the 2020 elections was a complete flop, the artist went off on Universal Records, with all guns blazing to expose the contracts he signed with them.
West posted a series of screenshots of the 10 contracts with the record label, asking lawyers from around the world to look into them. The rapper says that the profit-sharing agreement on the contract makes the recording business seem like 'modern-day slavery' where artists can't even own their masters.
After sharing the contracts on Twitter, Kanye posted a photo of a sweatshirt that said "Kim is my lawyer" signaling towards his wife who is currently studying law. He also demanded record labels to stop the exploitation of music artists and make the contracts simple to understand.
But the rapper was awarded a 48-hour ban from Twitter after he took a jab at the Forbes editor, calling him a white supremacist and even sharing his personal phone number on the platform. Twitter immediately hid the post from other users and banned West from the site until he took down the tweet.
